I'm dreaming of a green Christmas

Putting the decorations up should be a wholesome activity, not a wasteful one. Check out these sustainable and natural festive decorations that are easy to make, beautiful to look at and won't break the bank.

Dried fruit baubles 🍊

Dried fruit is the perfect way to put some handmade touches on your tree, all you need is a variety of citruses, string and an oven. This is a great way to use up your old and wrinkled fruit.

How to dry your fruit:

  1. Heat your oven to 110ºC.
  2. Slice your fruit thinly, around 1/4-inch thick, and arrange on an oven rack or a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  3. Bake for 2 hours, turning halfway through, or until completely dried out. Total baking time will depend on how thick your slices are so keep an eye on them to prevent burning, some fruit may take longer than others.
  4. Once dried, use scissors to poke a hole in the top of a slice and thread the string through. Tie at the top and hang them on your tree, mantel or windows.

Add cloves and cinnamon sticks for that extra festive feel, like below👇

Mini rosemary wreaths 🌿

If you love the smell of rosemary, you're sure to love these cute natural wreaths that you can make in minutes.

Use your hands to curve the rosemary into a circle and secure the ends with twine by tying with a knot. From here you can decorate with whatever you like. Hang them in the kitchen, add to your wrapped gifts or use as a show-stopping garnish for a charcuterie board.

Top tip: Spritz with water every day to keep fresher for longer.

Salt dough garland ⭐️

Use just 3 cupboard staples to create a magical garland, just make sure you have some cookie cutters, a toothpick and string at hand.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 1/2 cup water

METHOD

  1. Add the flour, salt and water to a mixing bowl.
  2. Mix well and add more water if too dry. Use your hands to form a ball of dough, then use a rolling pin or bottle to roll it flat.
  3. Use cookie cutters to make shapes (these can be any shape you like!). Stab each shape with a toothpick to make a hole for the string.
  4. Bake at 250ºF or 120ºC for 2 hours.
  5. Let them cool and tie together with string to make a garland.

Make this festive season a sustainable one.
