Did you know that our Halls Life team produces a monthly podcast called Queer Peers?! 👀
Hosted by our very own UAL Halls Life student wellbeing coordinator Marco Bodi (he/him), every month he sits down with a new guest to discuss important topics in the LGBTQ+ community. 🌈
The idea for a podcast was born after many discussions and conducting forums with students about how we can better support our LGBTQ+ community here at UAL.
If you haven't tuned in yet, we have several episodes you can listen to now. Here's a quick summary of all the episodes produced so far. 🤩👏
Episode One - Transitioning at UAL
In our very first episode, Marco interviews Minnie (he/him), a postgrad student in Design for Social Innovation and Sustainable Futures, who generously shares his own experience of transitioning, while studying at UAL! 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
Episode Two - Queer and International
In the second episode, Marco sat down with Madhurima Kumar (she/her) to chat about all things queer as international students. Born in Mumbai, Madhurima moved to the UK to study an MA Design for Art Design at UAL and is now working as a halls committee administrator in the UAL Halls Life team. 👏
Episode Three - Student Services Queer Support
In our third episode, Marco chats with Pete Scalpello (they/them) who works as a Mental Health Adviser in Counselling and Student Health services at UAL. Pete gives us an insight into what student services are on offer at UAL for queer students throughout the year, from where to find them to the best contact details.
Pete and Marco finish the episode by sharing some top tips for queer students moving to London and how they can best prepare for life at UAL.
Episode Four - How Arts SU supports queer students
In our most recent episode, Katwamba shares with us a bit about his UAL journey, from starting as a student, to then becoming a Course Rep, and now the LCF Officer, representing the Arts SU.
As well as his personal journey, Katwamba shares all the activities and events that are focused to the UAL LGBTQIA+ community, giving you some useful tips for new incoming queer students.
Episode Five - Being Queer and Neurodivergent
In this episode, Marco Bodi and Madhurima sit down with Lee Howe-Li-Rocchi (all pronouns) from the UK who is a Community Lead at Highline Building to chat being Queer and Neurodivergent.
Marco, Madhurima and Lee talk about their neurodiversity, from the moment of discovery, to how this effects their day to day life.
Episode Six - Let's Talk about Grief
In this episode Halls Life members, Marco (He/Him) and Alicia (She/Her), sat down with Amber Jeffrey (She/Her) and Anna May (She/Her) to discuss about Grief.
They talk through the themes of early stages of grief, grief as time passes and grief and identity, focusing on the queer community and exploring how identity might impact the grieving process. They also discuss National Week Awareness Week & Grief during the festive period.
Episode Seven - The Art of Drag Transformation
In this special episode, get to know our resident drag queen, Eileen Eiffell! 💅
As the first amputee drag queen, Ian (aka Eileen Eiffell) opens up about their unique journey into the world of drag, sharing the highs, lows, and everything in between.
Listen to Episode Seven. 🎧
