LGBTQ+ History Month: Queer Illuminations

By UALHalls 29 Feb 2024

In celebration of LGBTQ+ history month, Halls Life collaborated with the UAL LGBTQ+ staff network to organise an unforgettable evening.

The event took place at Chelsea College of Arts, one of our oldest college buildings, which was illuminated to honour this significant month. Experience Queer Illuminations for yourself in the video below!

The event featured a special appearance by drag queen Eileen Eiffell and delicious treats from London’s first queer bakery, ‘Kween Kream’. Leading national charity Stonewall Housing also joined us for the evening, alongside Portobello Brewery who, with their specially crafted lagers and ales have raised over £60,000 for Stonewall Housing.

At Halls Life, we recognise the importance of acknowledging the achievements and contributions of the LGBTQ+ community while also highlighting the ongoing struggles and discrimination they face. Events like Queer Illuminations provide an opportunity for individuals to unite, offer support, and educate others about the challenges confronted by the LGBTQ+ community. Whilst having fun too!

Jane Donachy – Associate Director Accomodation, Retail and Catering:

‘I think it is very important as an ally to show support by walking the walk and not just talking about it. I’m very proud of my team; always expect the unexpected when the Halls Life team put on an event, I’m very proud of what they’ve achieved.’

Andrew Teverson – Pro Vice Chancellor - Head of College at LCF & LGBTQ+ Executive Board sponsor:

‘The activities and events run by Halls Life and the LGBTQ+ staff network represent an invaluable contribution to university life. They are an affirmation of the diversity of UAL communities, and advocate powerfully for our shared values of inclusion and tolerance.’
