Advocating for Equality for Disabled People in Halls 🌟

UK Disability History Month 2024 is an opportunity to develop a culture of difference and remove barriers so that everyone can reach their full potential - something we always encourage in halls!

From 14 November to 20 December, our annual event will aim to raise awareness about disability, promote understanding of disability history, and celebrate the lives and achievements of disabled people.

📣 IMPORTANT CHANGE: Due to concerns about bad weather in London this week this event is taking on a new format, our wonderful guests will now be recording their monologues. Sign up through the Eventbrite link at the bottom of the page for a link to the final videos. The recordings will be available on December 5th 2024.  🙌

🌈 Disability Monologues 🌈

Disability Monologues features the below guests telling their powerful stories of triumph and overcoming adversity. Hear from inspiring guest speakers like:

  • Jennie Williams: Founder of Enhance the UK, a charity supporting people with disabilities to live fully, focusing on communication, relationships, and sexual rights. She created the Undressing Disability campaign to raise awareness and offer resources on sex, dating, and relationships for those with impairments.
  • Eileen Eiffell (aka Ian Lilley): A groundbreaking amputee drag queen known for her performances at London’s Zodiac Bar. After losing her leg in a tragic accident, she became one of Europe’s only amputee drag artists, using her unique story to inspire and entertain.
  • Matilda Feyiṣayọ Ibini: Artist and activist, multi-award-winning playwright and filmmaker whose work has been featured at prestigious venues like the Old Vic and Royal Court Theatre. A Star of Tomorrow 2020, they’ve written for BBC and Amazon Prime, with their play Sleepova winning multiple awards, including the Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Affiliate Theatre.
  • Ben Dean: A mental health advocate, Co-founder of Raven Records and Chairman of the Church of Rational Satanism. A passionate advocate for recovery and diversity, he founded Satanic Recovery and works to dispel myths around Satanism. With over 17 years of sobriety, Ben shares his journey through speaking engagements at universities and major companies, focusing on addiction, neurodivergence, and inclusion.
