Caffeine O'clock

Timing your perfect brew

Let's be honest, university life runs on coffee. Whether you're powering through coursework, have pulled an all-nighter or just need a boost for your 9am lecture, a cup of Extract Coffee Roasters coffee is the answer.

But when are the best times to grab one on campus? Here's our guide to help you beat the rush and find the best window for your next caffeine fix.

The early bird

⏰ 9 – 10am

If you're an early riser, this is prime coffee time. All of our cafés are open from 9am to make sure you can get your caffeine fix before those early lectures. This is a great time to get some studying done in a relaxing atmosphere or take some time yourself before the day kicks off.

The lines are shorter, the coffee machines are warming up and the baristas are ready to serve their first cups of coffee of the day.

Best for: Morning people, early lectures, quiet study time.

The post-lecture pick me up

⏰ 10 – 11:30am

After the first wave of lectures, you've earned yourself a break.

The lines may be longer with the new rush of students but if you're not rushing in between classes, this is a good chance to grab a quick pastry and take a breather with a brew before you're onto the next. Plus, our expert baristas are masters of speedy service!

Best for: Post-lecture breaks, study groups, a quick chat with friends.

The hustle and bustle

⏰ 12 – 2pm

Uh oh, peak rush hour alert 🚨 Not only are students looking for lunch, but many are also fuelling up with coffee before heading to their next class.

If you've got a jam-packed schedule this might be your only chance to grab a cup. Even through there's likely to be longer lines, if you've got a bit of time on your hands this is the perfect opportunity to debrief with friends.

Best for: Grab-and-go, socialising, fuelling for a busy afternoon.

The study grind

⏰ 2:30 – 4pm

The post-lunch lull is real, and this is when a coffee break can really perk you up for the mid-afternoon stretch.

If you've got assignments to finish, this is a great time to grab your coffee and find a quiet nook in our cafés as they tend to quieten down a little. Just keep in mind that some cafés may close earlier than others, so be sure to check our opening hours

Best for: Afternoon study sessions, solo work, avoiding crowds.

The last call

⏰ 5 – 6pm

After the daily grind, you might be surprised at how comforting a cup of coffee can be. If you're a night owl or procrastinator, find a cosy spot to sip on a latte while you power through coursework, or simply reflect on the day and decompress one sip at a time.

Be warned though, caffeine late in the day is not for everyone, so make sure it won't keep you up when you need to sleep.

Best for: Night study sessions, post-uni catch up with friends, grab-and-go for travelling.
