Earth Week runs 19–23 April 2027 and highlights the importance of tackling the climate emergency. The UAL Climate Emergency Network (CEN) is inviting staff and students to get involved and help shape this year’s programme.
This year’s theme is ‘Rooted Ecologies’, asking us to consider whether the future of creative practice could be rooted in traditions which we have been taught to overlook.
There are 3 ways to get involved:
1) Contribute a workshop idea
Your idea can take multiple forms but ideas for workshops where the UAL community get to make, design, experiment or share skills are particularly welcomed.
The CEN are interested in ideas that:
- Centre underrepresented voices in climate, sustainability and creative education, particularly people and communities disproportionately affected by climate change
- Draw on ancestral, traditional or local ecological knowledge, grounded in direct cultural, practical or community connections
- Bring lived experience of climate change into creative practice, dialogue and collective action
- Make overlooked expertise visible, including craft, community and intergenerational knowledge
- Create new regenerative traditions, adapting or extending rooted knowledge and practices for changing futures.
💰 Successful activities can receive up to £500 to use on materials and contributor fees to bring them to life, depending on the format and requirements.
How to apply:
To apply, fill out the interest form below.
🚨 Submissions close 27 November
2) Design the Earth Week visual identity
Graphic design students are invited to apply to design the visuals for Earth Week.
CEN welcome interpretations of the theme that reflect its connections to ancestral knowledge, living systems, cultural traditions and ecological relationships.
💰 The selected student will receive 5 days of paid work through Arts Temps.
The selected student will collaborate with the CEN throughout December 2026 and January 2027 to develop an asset pack.
These visuals will feature across UAL's social media, websites and promotional materials ready for Earth Week.
How to apply:
To apply, submit a poster featuring your visual identity with the title 'Rooted Ecologies' and send this to climatenetwork@arts.ac.uk.
🚨 The deadline to apply is 27 November
3) Join the selection panel
You can review creative proposals and help shape the Earth Week programme.
CEN are looking for 16 reviewers across the colleges.
💰 No experience is required and you'll be paid through Arts Temps for participating. Lunch will be provided.
When is it taking place?
To participate, you must be available on Wednesday 16 December 2026, between 10am - 2pm for an in-person meeting at LCC.
