Learn about the visitor & guest policy in hall of residence

Planning to have visitors or overnight guests join you at your hall?

Whether they're friends, family, or visitors, you'll need to make sure you (and your guests) know the rules to ensure you are following the UAL policy.

All guests must sign in and out at reception ✍🏽

All students must ensure they follow the UAL guest policy in place. The policy is outlined in your tenancy agreement. Please ensure you read this document, so you are aware of the agreement you have signed.

  • All students must ensure they follow the UAL guest policy in place. The policy is outlined in your tenancy agreement. Please ensure you read this document, so you are aware of the agreement you have signed.

  • We encourage students to speak with guests before they arrive to ask them to follow the rules. Students are responsible for their guests' actions whilst they are at the hall and on UAL premises. Accordingly, where a breach of tenancy is attributed to the actions of a guest, the student may be subject to disciplinary proceedings.

  • All guests must sign in and out at reception, which is for fire regulation purposes. This includes signing in and out every time they enter and exit the building, for example even if they go to the supermarket, they will be required to sign out and sign in on their return to the hall.

The usual guest policy means that between 10am and 10pm you can have 2 guests at any one time visit you, either from another flat or 2 guests who do not currently live in the halls.

  • As part of your tenancy agreement, residents must obtain prior written permission from the Residence Manager for their overnight quest.

  • You are allowed 1 overnight guest at any one time, and they may stay for a maximum of 3 nights within any 14-day period in your bedroom.

  • All overnight guests must be 18 years of age to stay in the hall.

  • Before your guests join you, make sure you get the consent from other residents in the flat and ensure you follow the guest policy as outlined in your tenancy agreement.

What to do when your visitors are on-site 🏡

You should never give someone else your fob and your guests must be accompanied by yourself at all times.

If you’re not with them, then this is classed as sub-letting and not allowed under the terms of your contract. Anyone found in possession of a fob that is not under contract with us will be asked to leave and the contracted resident contacted.

Guests who overstay or won’t leave halls 💭

If you find yourself in this situation, there are steps to take to ensure it can be handled safely:

If the guest has overstayed the maximum stay period, and you feel comfortable, have a conversation with the person who invited the guest. Having an open conversation can help fix the issue swiftly.

If you have a conversation with your flatmate and there is no change or aren’t comfortable having an in-person conversation, reach out to the staff at reception and let them know what is happening. They will be able to help guide you and your flatmate through the situation and remind them of the guidelines for overnight visitors.

  • Guests who overstay or show antisocial behaviour could be banned from the hall and will not be allowed to return.

  • If a guest is causing you too feel uncomfortable or refuses to leave, please report this to your Halls' management team and they can help resolve this issue.
  • Your flat at your hall is your home, so you have every right to feel comfortable in your space.

Please note - Guests who overstay or show antisocial behaviour could be banned from the hall and will not be allowed to return.
