3 top tips from Extract Coffee Roasters

It's the little things in life that make your day, like your morning coffee...and we want to make it even better. Here are some of the expert's hacks on how to make your coffee taste better at home.

Swap pre-ground coffee for coffee beans 🫘

Did you know that as soon as you grind coffee it can start to lose its freshness? This is why Extract Coffee Roasters suggest buying whole coffee beans instead. If you can keep it as a whole bean up until you brew your coffee, you'll definitely be able to notice the difference in flavour.

So a coffee grinder is an essential part of your coffee equipment. If you don't already have one, there are so many options that won't break the bank like this LIDOUK grinder on Amazon

Weigh your coffee ☕️

This is a must-have to finding the perfect recipe for you and recreating it, and can be done using simple digital kitchen scales. Weighing your coffee means you have more control over the outcome, reducing the risk of your drinks being over or under extracted.

If you don't fancy weighing it, a level dessert spoon of course-ground coffee is 8kg so you can work out how much you want from there.

Keep experimenting with different measurements to find your favourite.

Filter your water 💧

Water makes up most of the final part of your drink, so it matters more than you think. From varying water hardness in the UK to limescale build-up in your kettle, it all impacts the taste of your brew.

You can buy a simple water filter jug from just £8.99 on Amazon, all you have to do is fill it up from the tap and pop it in the fridge. Not only will this make your coffee taste better, but will also extend the life of your kettle or espresso machine too as an extra perk.

Top tip: The temperature of the water should not be boiling as it can scorch your coffee, a boiled kettle left for one minute works better!

All that's left to do is experiment. Taste the difference between filtered and unfiltered water with your brew, or try grinding your coffee courser or finer to notice the variations of texture and flavour.
