Posted 3 weeks ago

We are proud to celebrate our diversity of students in halls

It's ADHD awareness month and this year's theme is Awareness is Key, so we asked Deborah Theophilus to share her top tips on being a student with ADHD. πŸŽ‰

She is currently studying Fashion Design Technology Womenswear at LCF and is also a Communications Lead at Stratford One. As part of her Comms Lead role, she is responsible for creating and delivering promotional and marketing campaigns around the halls for the weekly events that take place for the students.

Whether you have ADHD or know someone who does, check out Deborah's advice below to help you get through your studies and have a successful semester. πŸ“š

🧠 Deborah's top tips for being a student with ADHD 🧠

Tip 1: Start assignments asap! πŸ€“

It might be obvious, but do your work bit by bit. Even if you don't finish it straight away, at least you have started the assignment so when that deadline looms closer, and the work is piling up, you won't have to start from the very beginning and be pressed for time.

Tip 2: Have a 'stuff bin' πŸ—‘οΈ

If you're like Deborah and have a messy room, it can get pretty hard to maintain and live in every day. She is currently studying full-time and working two jobs, so she has what she likes to call a 'stuff bin' in her room. It is essentially a place to chuck everything into when it gets a bit overwhelming as a solution to do a quick tidy up her room and she can come back to it when she is ready.

Tip 3: Plan routes and tasks ahead of time offline πŸ—’οΈ

Deborah said she likes to physically write out her plans so she is not tempted by social media. If she starts typing on her phone, social media can be distracting with reels, pop ups and notifications, and will sometimes forget to actually write things down. Therefore, planning ahead on paper helps her feel more organised... such a slay. πŸ’…
