There are several tricks Londoners use to stay snug as autumn leaves fall and winter looms.
Whether you're facing your first frosty season in London, or you have endured this type of weather over winter before, here's some essential tips and reminders below to keep you dry and cosy in the colder months.
With this guide, hopefully you'll be ready for whatever the British sky throws at you! ☀️⛈️☔️❄️
☂️ 7 tips to prepare for winter in London ☂️
🧥 1. Invest in waterproof wear 🧥
You will not regret securing yourself a high-quality waterproof for those rainy days. You could also pick up some waterproof shoes to keep your feet dry.
🧣 2. Layer up 🧣
You can't control the temperature, but you can control how many layers you add to your fit. Start with a light base, add a middle layer (or layers), then your waterproof as the outer layer. Don't forget to incorporate a scarf, beanie and gloves too when it gets really cold.
📲 3. Forecast apps 📲
It might be an obvious one, but always check the weather forecast before you leave for the day. For localised London reports, some good apps to use are BBC Weather or Met Office.
☂️ 4. Carry an umbrella ☂️
Don't get caught out not having an umbrella, especially if the weather suddenly changes. Even if it's a small, foldable one to keep in your bag, you will not regret having an umbrella when the weather changes.
🏡 5. Embrace indoor events 🏡
When the weather is not weathering outside, thankfully you are in London and there's always a new museum, art exhibition, winter-themed event or cozy pub to explore. Plan ahead with friends for a day out to a new place and make the most of these events indoors when it's gloomy out.
☀️ 6. Make the most of the sunny days ☀️
When the sun does come out, don't delay on heading out to the parks and local markets. Grab your mates and join the locals to make the most of the rare sunshine in the colder months!
💦 7. Stay hydrated 💦
As you bounce around between the Tube and heated buildings, it can be quite dehydrating, so make sure you are still keeping up your liquids.
💭 Remember 💭
There's not such thing as bad weather, only being underprepared. Adopt these tips into your daily routine and you'll be able to weather the storm, no matter the type of day!
