Top 10 places to check out around Furzedown Hall
Whether shopping, dancing or eating take your fancy, there’s plenty for everyone to do in Tooting and Wimbledon.
Here are my top 10 places in the local area to take a breather from your busy uni week.
1. Brunch Spots
If you’re looking for affordable and delicious brunch spots then ‘Bonjour Brioche’ is one to add to your list. With fresh croissants and pastries, it never fails to disappoint. ‘Bills’ is another tasty and affordable spot for Sunday brunch with a great Eggs Royale.
2. Mixed Blessings Bakery
This West Indian bakery is located just down from Furzedown Student Village on Mitcham Road, make sure to ask for the ‘Salt Fish Patty’ and the ‘Jamaican Bread’. They even sell frozen patties to take away and cook in the comfort of your own home!
3. Odeon Cinema
With so many great films about it’s worth seeing them on the big screen. With student tickets coming to around £9, it’s worth the trip.
4. Wimbledon Village
If you’re wanting to escape from the rush then take a day out and relax in Wimbledon Village. There are organic supermarkets and great charity shops, brightening up your wardrobe at a tiny cost!
5. Nightlife
Hiding away just down from Tooting Broadway station is the buzzing ‘Tram and Social’, which is a perfect end to the night. It’s even busy on weeknights with open mic Tuesdays. If Wimbledon is closer, then ‘The Garratt and Gauge’ is also a lively spot to enjoy a drink.
6. Cocktail o’clock
‘Berties Bar’ is the place to head for an evening of happy hour and cocktails. This quirky bar is hidden under the Prince of Wales in the old cellar. The entrance is through a small lit up courtyard and creates a great atmosphere.
7. Tooting Market
Be sure to take a visit to Tooting Market. Filled with beautiful fabric stalls, hidden bars, and delicious pizza. There’s something for everyone!
8. Tooting Bec Lido
Tooting Bec holding the largest lido in the country. When the sun peaks through all the locals will be here. Centered in the middle of Tooting Common it’s a gorgeous place to spend a lazy day in the sun.
9. Coffee Spots
Wimbledon spoils you for choice with countless places to sit and have a coffee. ‘Bliss’ is just around the corner from South Wimbledon station, where you can enjoy the best chai lattes.
10. Student Shopping
Tooting has all the essentials for a good food shop. With Lidl and Aldi down the road from Tooting Broadway Station, you can be sure to save those pennies. The fresh fruit and vegetables in the street markets sell at amazing prices!
