5 places to check out around LCC

By UALHalls 06 Apr 2023

My name is Marcie and I’m a first year studying Film and Television at LCC.

Elephant and Castle is a vibrant and modern area known for its food and great connections to the rest of the city. A fast-paced and ever-changing area of London, there’s something for everyone, with plenty of student friendly places to check out.

Having studied here for almost a year now, I’ve had plenty of time to discover some of these cool spots nearby. Here are my top 5, all within less than a 10-minute walk!

1. Mercato Metropolitano 🍴

Located in the former site of an abandoned paper factory, Mercato Metropolitano boasts a wide array of different cuisines.

You can find almost anything here, from Himalayan Dumplings to Korean Chicken - if you fancy it, they almost certainly have it.

They even have their own artisanal grocery store if you want to try your hand at making something delicious at home! Check out their full list of traders

2. Darkroom bar 🍻

LCC’s very own student union bar is a great place to find a cheap drink and hang out with your friends.

With student DJs on the regular and pints starting at £2.90, you can’t go wrong with a few drinks here after uni or as a place to pregame before a night out.

3. Imperial War Museum ⚔️

Just a few minutes' walk away from LCC, the Imperial War Museum hosts an impressive collection of artefacts with free general admission.

The collection spans six floors and has everything from real canons on its front lawn, to its film and video archive, which is considered one of the oldest in the world, allowing visitors to see war through the eyes of the people who lived it.

4. Ministry of Sound 🪩

The world-famous nightclub is situated just around the corner from LCC, and is known for its incredible sound systems, world famous DJs and all-around great music.

Their student nights on Tuesdays have tickets starting at just £4 and have been running for 21 years.

Clubbing doesn’t get much better than this.

5. Southwark Playhouse 🎭

With student seats starting at £28, the Southwark Playhouse is a great place to see incredible live theatre.

Whatever you’re interested in, you’re sure to find here! The theatre has performances of everything from Shakespeare to contemporary plays and musicals.
