4 ways to practice self-love this Valentine's Day
Valentine's day can come with lots of unhelpful pressure and unrealistic expectations. You are free to love or hate Valentine’s day. Don’t be hard on yourself. You can opt-out at any time. Don’t feel guilty or sad about it.
Whether you Valentine's day fanatic or not, there's one thing we could all do with... a little more SELF-LOVE.
1. Take it easy
You don't need to fill your Valentine's Day with any grand plan. However, you are feeling about it take some time for yourself.
Catch up on sleep, rest and pamper yourself. Or, why not take the time to celebrate your friends and family? It's time to change our perspective and celebrate all the love around us.
2. Take yourself on a date
It's time for a self-love 1 to 1. Spend quality time with yourself and do something special that makes you really happy. This could be taking a stroll in the park (well deserved in this time of lockdown), ordering your favourite food, watching a film. Anything! Give attention to yourself. The keyword here is you.
3. Keep calm and follow a positive mantra
Search for some positive mantras or make one that suits you better.
Empower yourself with positive affirmations such as “I am enough, worth of friendship and love, just as I am” or “I love and accept myself always”. They can help change the way you think and give you an energy boost.
Take some time to be mindful and check-in with yourself. You'll feel so much better for it.
4. Spoil yourself
We've all been through a lot this year so, what better excuse is there to spoil yourself? Maybe you've had your eye on something for a while or maybe it's as simple as buying yourself a treat from the supermarket.
Go on... you deserve it!
“If you can’t love yourself, how the hell can you love somebody else? Can I get an Amen?!”
Wise words from RuPaul. Valentine’s day can be a tough day. Celebrate yourself instead. And if you are in a relationship, come on, share the heart-shaped box of chocolates.
