Five free things to do in London this May

May is one of our favourite times of the year, not only does it mark the end of coursework and deadlines, but it has two bank holidays and *fingers crossed* we should start to see a bit of sun.

If you want to make the most of this month, we’ve put together a few tips for free things to do in London.


1) Tasty and Smelly at The Tate Modern 

OK technically this is at the end of April, but we were intrigued by the name…The Tate Modern are working with the University of Westminster to explore how taste and smell are connected.

Get involved with all the installations and workshops!

(Saturday 29 April 10 - 10 pm and Sunday 30 April 10 - 6 pm)


2) Meet alpacas, sheep and…ferrets 

For those of you who love the rural life, you can experience it right here in the city. Vauxhall city farm is home to lots of adorable animals which you can visit and pet for free!

(Every Tuesday – Sunday 10.30 am – 4 pm)


3) Visit a neon wonderland 

God’s Own Junkyard has become a must visit attraction over the last few years. Based in Walthamstow, East London, the junkyard is home to hundreds of cool neon signs – an Instagram lover’s dream as you can see from the picture above!

4) Selfie exhibition at The Saatchi Gallery

Love taking a selfie? You’ll be in good company at the latest exhibition at the famous Saatchi Gallery. "From Selfie to Self- Expression" explores the history of the selfie right up to the modern day. (Every day until 30 May 10 am –

5) Get the best views of London 

Take a picnic, bring a group of friends and get the best free view of London by strolling through the beautiful Hampstead Heath and up Parliament Hill.
